"The dal is cooked al dente with each grain maintaining its own personality, and the taste is a perfect balance of savoury, spicy, sour and sweet. Shivraj dhaba is not a dhaba. It is a proper building and obviously a very popular destination. The road...to it is all dug up but that does not deter the foodies to drive on the wrong side of the road and fill up all the tables on a weekday peak 43 degrees heat. That is precisely what we do and our food is served before we can say supercalafragilistic. The first dish on our table is Dahi (Rs 10) is delicious chilled and set in an earthen pot. Soon thereafter arrives a delicious brinjal dish n the form of Baigan Masala (Rs 80) cooked with a lot of peanuts which make it taste like the sauce that comes with satays and goes very well with a creamy brinjal. Next is the star attraction – the Akkha Masur (Rs 90), which is perfect, and ranks among the best dals I have ever tasted in my life. A large tava roti (Rs 10) is a perfect accompaniment. We emerge from the dhaba with a feeling of bien-etre. And this feeling cost us Rs 100 per head! A must if you are ever in this region."
