I think they're surviving off Guy Fieri's visit because nothing we ate, saw, or experienced came anywhere close to deserving the rating they currently have.
There are lots of lunch places in the desert to grab a bite Go here. It's not in a tourist section of the valley.

"The location is good and so the ambience. Seating is pretty good and ample. Good selection as well for vegan and vegetarian. That’s said, the taste is really not there. Vegan does not mean bland or simple. Ginger, onion, black salt, and lots more species can make it very good to eat. The food we ordered was bland, on the colder side and with no taste. The person at the counter missed one shake order despite repeating. Plus the order is was very slow. Vegan Shakes were the best among all. Will I come back again, not probably."

"This is our 2nd time here. They are located in the back of the building. You can access their order window from the back alley or the sidewalk between two buildings.Gabino's has taken crepes to another level. Instead of a dessert crepe, they make a savory crepe. Absolutely delicious!!!No seating inside...but there are tables and chairs outside.We plan on eating here every time we come to Palm Springs."
