"Update: 3-4 times. Every time. Lunch Special is such a good deal. Less than $14, get 3 barbecue items (meat, veggie, several to choose from). Rice, soup and salad. Bring your coupon from KauKau magazine (It is in Japanese, but you will find coupon on Gyukaku page with small English translation) for free soft drinks or $1 Kirin beer. Your service was better every time and they give the best Kamaaina discount! Now it's our favorite place. The food was great. Portions are a little small, but I can order 5-6 different items along with rice, soup, etc. Happy Hour is the way to go. Beer is cheap and super cold, making my Hubby happy. It was about shift change, so the service wasn't that big... our server never came back to check if we needed anything. No refilling on water. We will go back because we enjoy the food and the price was reasonable."

"Wow wow was amazing! The atmosphere is beautiful and casual, with many locals eating there. Our server Andy was so knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered the wagyu sampler and were blown away. You never had such good beef in your life, trust me."

"I am so disappointed. SUPER disappointed. Shokudo has been around for decades. It used to be THE place to be. I came back after being gone for years (mainly for the honey toast) and it has changed dramatically. The 2 stars is only because the honey toast seemed to stay the same after all these years. They even added flavors. It would have been a one star overall if not for that. If you asked me 20 years ago this would have been ABSOLUTELY 5 stars. First off there is no sushi anymore, they only have sushi rolls. The menu is 1/8 of the original menu. No more sushi pizza and all the specialty apps. The bar is gone, there is no bar. (The kids working here are so young they probably don 't even remember the bar being here lol). This is a JAPANESE restaurant and i am embarrassed for them because the one thing that SHOULD be right is the rice and even that was subpar at best. The rice was old and hard and we basically just threw away money because it was not edible. The sashimi was old too. We eat and buy sashimi a lot and then the ones sold at foodland was fresher than what they gave us on the sampler platter. The salmon sashimi was so old it was grey already. SMH. If you go here, just get desert and sake or beer. Bill was still $100 for food that was inedible."
