"My wife and I were travelling from Alleppey to Bangalore using the less frequently used but more scenic Alleppey-Kochi-Thrissur-Vadakkencherry-Nemmara-Pollachi-Palladam-Kangayam-Perundurai-Bangalore route. While passing through Pollachi around lunch time we were on the lookout for a decent looking non-vegetarian place to eat. Unfortunately, we didn't chance upon any place in the town limits and pretty soon found ourselves on the Pollachi-Palladam highway. About 2 minutes driving down the road, I saw the board for Hotel Nakshatra by "Dynamic Group" with both veg and non-veg options. After a quick discussion with wifey, we decided to get inside.Nakshatra is not the kind of place you would like to go to on your first date. I have to admit that my initial impression was not pleasant and I was having second thoughts about eating there. At best, the interiors can be described as shabby. But I guess we were famished so decided to go ahead. The waiter was extremely courteous and was at our service instantly. We were led to a separate hut at the rear and two large banana leaves were placed on the table to serve as our plates. That they appeared to be rather clean instantly brightened my mood. A bottle of mineral water was also placed at out disposal. The menu consisted of the same fare that is typically available in highway hotels across Tamil Nadu and was recited by the waiter with a flourish. Wifey decided to go with Chicken Biriyani while I settled for the traditional highway fare of "Burotta" with Chicken Semi-gravy. For good measure we also threw in a Nattu Kozhi Varuval (country chicken fry). The Chicken Biriyani was the first to arrive followed by the Chicken Semi-gravy. Wifey liked the Biriyani a lot because it had just the right amount of spice. I also started to munch on the Chicken from the gravy and found it to be just perfect. When wifey was half-way through the Biriyani, the waiter came to inform us that the "Burotta" would take some more time as he had asked the cook to prepare it fresh rather than using the morning's stock. Meanwhile the Nattu Kozhi Varuval also arrived and we didn't find it as exciting as the previous two dishes. After another 5 minutes, I was served on my banana leaf two of the fluffiest and soft "Burottas" that I have eaten in a long time. Each mouthful with the gravy was just awesome. It was 10 minutes of pure gastronomic delight for me.Every once in a while, we leave a restaurant smacking our lips and feeling just perfect about the world. Our meal at Nakshatra was once such. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, please look elsewhere. Just for the joy that eating pure highway food provides without any frills in a very basic setting, look no further."

"We chanced upon this place while driving down from Coimbatore to Kodaikanal, as we landed in the first floor, we had to wait for our turn, place was small but crowded. My wife loved the Mushroom Dhum biryani and even got a portion packed. My daughter enjoyed her butter naan ( a fuss was made though about serving naan without a side dish order). I enjoyed both the Mushroom biryani and a parotta. We purchased few Amul icecreams on our way out. Interestingly the menu card does not carry any prices but the pices are very pocket friendly. Make it a point to eat there in case you are travelling through Pollachi, they have a separate parking lot nearby to the hotel too."
