"Always a favorite. The smell alone of baked bread is enough to bring me back repeatedly. But, this time, we came with family to celebrate a birthday. Now, I understand Bistro Boudin is a flour and water factory, aka gluten heaven, but to have such limited and uninspiring gluten-free options on the menu made it seem that there was a lack of creativity in the kitchen. They brought out a piece of meat on lettuce for my mother-in-law, who has a true gluten allergy and a shellfish allergy (which kept her from the French fries, too, due to cross-contamination with the fryers and frying shellfish). There was an option on the menu to have a side of polenta from another dish, but the chef was “out of polenta.” I was a bit embarrassed to have flown across the country from Boston, having talked this place up for years since my previous visit, to have her experience a dinner that was nothing worthy of creating a lasting memory. It’s too bad because otherwise, I loved my meal, and everyone else in my party had a great dinner. But, a place that is too overly specialized has to be flexible and creative to accommodate diners with special diets, especially nowadays."
